Cindy's Sensory Room

A sensory room is a space designed to  develop a person’s senses. It can also be used to calm and regulate behaviors and emotions. These types of environments can be beneficial for people of all ages, especially those who are on the autism spectrum. Sensory rooms are specially designed to provide soft lighting, soothing sounds, and tactile materials for use. 

Our sensory room has many fun items! We have an interactive projector with games and soothing visuals, sensory bins for play, wall mounted activities, and more! 

The Sensory Room has a limit of three children at a time. Walk-ins are welcome, but we encourage you to make a reservation to ensure that there is space. 

Time slots are for 30 minutes at a time. When you arrive, please check in at the desk. You do need to sign a waiver when you arrive or ahead of time when you book.  It is important that parents and caregivers stay with their child or young adult. 

Safety rules and instructions will be posted in the room for all of our equipment.

When Potter’s House Bakery opened in 2018, they shared their mission with Rochester to create “goodies for goodness sake” and worked with a group of young adults on the spectrum, giving them on the job training and prepare them for the workforce. A woman named Cindy Ziobrowski created this partnership between the bakery and her organization which worked with these young adults. 

When Cindy passed away in 2021, the program dwindled, but Potter’s House continued to support the mission. In 2024, we created a non-profit called CARD NH to build a much needed resource for families in the surrounding area - a sensory room. We held our first fundraising event in July 2024 and raised $25,000! We partnered with Potter’s House Bakery and Alkegen to make this event happen. Finally, in May 2026, we were able to launch the sensory room. 

Cindy’s Sensory Room is a space for those with sensory needs to find a place for comfort in our community. We have named it after Cindy to honor her commitment and lifelong dedication to working with children and young adults on the spectrum.
